Untitled Game
As you can see by the title of this post, I'm in the very early stages of game development. The point at which all the sprites for my characters are all very blocky placeholder art. This serves to give me a visual guide on how things work in the world I'm creating.
So if I'm not stating the name of the game and I'm not showing any pictures off, then why I'm I writing this post you might ask? Well simply this is me getting my thought process out in front of me before the game is done, I want to see if by documenting things this way it helps me gain a better understanding of what I'm doing and if someone else gets something out of reading these things, then mores the better.

The aim of this game for me is simple, I want to create a pure game (more on that in a second) that me and the other half can enjoy without having to get too involved. That was my criteria and that's what I started with. I found it really helpful to write things down on paper to keep on track with what I was doing. But one thing was clear straight away that I was going to create a pure game.
So what do I mean by pure game? Well by that I mean it's built with the sole intent of you having fun with your little character on screen, nothing more, nothing less. I'm thinking back to the first Doom and a quote from John Carmack (co-found id software) who said about story "Story in a game is like a story in a porn movie. It's expected to be there, but it's not that important." (I made a Top 10 Doom facts video.)
So a simple game with very little in the way of text is what I've planned to do. I'll cover more how this played into the design in the future, but the take away from this little snippet is Keep It Simple Stupid.
