Dead Island Junk Machete

Dead Island Machete

If there is one thing Dead Island has taught me, it's that in the zombie apocalypse the machete is your friend. Enabling you to cut a path through a horde of zombies, just as if you were clearing your way through a scrub as thick as your mam's bush.

I didn't have a cool machete like in Dead Island. No. I had a tinker toy machete, the type even African warlord children would be embarrassed to hack their enemies to death with. Well if it's not good enough for African warlord children, then it's not good enough for me.

This is why I decided to build my own Dead Island Junk Machete and this way I'll also have something to put mods on in the future, if that's what I want to do. I thought it would be a good idea to show the whole process, leaving in some of the mistakes I made, as most of the time mistakes can be beneficial to learn from.

The finished Dead Island machete is a junk beauty to behold, as you can see for yourself in the video and thumbnail picture. The ageing effect I used on the wooden handle of the machete, really did produce some great results. Giving the impression it was old and worn.

When I first had this Dead Island machete build in mind, I knew I wanted an old beaten machete for the base and I played around with ways of making the handle fit in with the look I was going for. But what surprised me was how the fuck up in the video, with the glue, produced better results than I had planned. I may have to put a better handle on the Dead Island junk machete in the future if I'm adding mods and showing it in action, as currently it's only held together with hot glue and shiny red vinyl tape (oh fancy).
the blades got to have a name
All in all I think the build went great and I ended up with the Dead Island machete I wanted. The only things that are up in the air are what name and mod to give the little beauty, after all the blades got to have a name. Some suggestions have come in from fans like "The Hack And Slash", "Baby Claymore", "Junkie", "The Slice And Dice" and "Now That's What I Call A Knife". Which are all solid contenders and understandable considering these were suggestions for the name of a machete built from the Dead Island game. There were some, not so straight forward names suggested for the Dead Island blade like "Brennan", "Ronaldo" and "Man Snatch Maker". I think the jury is still out on the name at the minute as is what mod, if any, I put on this Dead Island themed machete.

On the subject of Dead Island machete mods I'm limited really. Poison is out of the question, because visually that's useless. An acid mod is interesting, but that will no doubt attack the blade and even worse try to eat my handsome bastard arse. Something that deals cold damage would be fucking pony in this case (I'll probably make some freezing device in the future though). So that leaves me with electric and fire mods to put on the Dead Island machete.

Let's look at these two mods as prime contenders. Firstly an electrical mod might look nice, but the real world application ain't gonna cut the mustard. I can't easily get my hands on a taser, so I'd have to build my own from scratch which would be cool for me, but I wouldn't be able to show you, so that's shit.

The second option for the Dead Island mod is something fire based. Fire is showy, has real world use and implementing it in a different way might be fun. As you can see I'm leaning towards a fire mod for my Dead Island machete, but just like the name I'm still giving it a wriggle in me noodle bag.

If by any chance you yourself need a recap on the Dead Island story before you play Dead Island 2 or indeed are shocked to find out there is a Dead Island story and want to watch more, then you're going to want to check out the Dead Island Recap video you lucky sausage.
