5 Tips for getting better at Caveblazers

5 Tips for getting better at Caveblazers

Caveblazers looks like an easy action platformer at first, but one too many deaths can have new players feeling the game is too hard, leading to them quitting the game faster than you can say "Look out for that spike!".

Needless to say we've all been there, but here are a few tips to make your next play of Caveblazers a bit easier.

Caveblazers tip 1 - You don't have to kill everything

It may be part of the fun turning the cave's inhabitants into a red smear on the floor, but until you've mastered combat some fights are best avoided. Consider taking an alternative path or just rushing past enemies in Caveblazers and grabbing any loot as you go.

One note here, if you have a blessing or power up that rewards you for kills, then disregard and murder like a fox in a chicken coop.

Caveblazers tip 2 - Avoid the down stab

You're perched on a ledge like Batman above an unsuspecting goblin, you swan dive down perfectly into the down stab and...you land next to him. The goblin then cleaves you in half with his spiked stick, sound familiar? You see the down stab in Caveblazers can leave you open briefly to an attack, as the character won't instantaneously transition out of the move.

You can improve your technique by being more selective when you use your downstab, like when you have plenty of health and an enemy that is on his own.

Me personally I would just jump down and go crazy slashing away like Sir Lancelot in Monty Python and the Holy Grail instead.

Caveblazers tip 3 - The potion trick

The randomness of the potions in Caveblazers can put some people off using them all together, after all what each colour will do will change each playthrough, meaning you can't just learn by experience.

My top tip is to position yourself under a blessing (the floating power-up things) just before you consume a potion. If the potion inflicts a negative status on you, like burning or poison, then simply jump up into the blessing. You will be invulnerable long enough for the potion to wear off.

On top of that, I would just ensure you are in an enemy free part of the level and have plenty of health or health restoring items before you experiment with the magic potions. Once you have consumed them however, you do learn what they do for that run (remember it will be random if you die).

Caveblazers tip 4 - Equip trader

Seriously, as soon as you unlock the trader perk, enable it. You see the trader perk gives you more control over your play, by allowing you to drop items at shrines to reduce said shrines cost. This is a great way to declutter your inventory and lower the cost of getting better items.

The trader perk in Cavblazers also allows you ONE free upgrade at an altar, we leads us nicely on to the next tip.

Caveblazers tip 5 - upgrade your gear

Something that isn't obvious to new players of Caveblazers is that they can upgrade their weapons and equitable items at altars. All you have to do is drop two of the same items on the altar and they will merge to become more powerful.

Now the trader perk, as mentioned above, will let you upgrade one item for free, as in you will only need to drop one and it will be upgraded.

Some items will destroy the altar when you place them, so make sure you upgrade everything you want first, as the altar will then be unusable for the rest of that stage.
